I always thought Banksy was an intelligent man who's work represented and touched on some highly sensitive social issues. I was not however the biggest fan of his out comes until I watched his film. Through this i was able to understand his thought processes and gained a valuable insight into the way he works and his principles. It also allowed me to view his work in context to the greater world.



I also discovered Mr Brainwash who blew me away with his courage and determination to be a successful artist over night. He had the creative ability and drive but was not necessarily applying it correctly (according to Bansky). I was drawn to his consistent filming and even more fascinated by his resistance to do anything with his footage. His interaction with Bansky enabled him to gain the crusial knowledge to be a street artist and apply his findings to his own work.

Crit

Today I had a crit involving my numbers poster. It was nice to see how differently the brief had been interpreted and the outcomes produced. In terms of the feed back given about my piece of work, it was pretty positive. I was told my piece was well thought through. Also sensitive in terms of the illustrations produced and the subject matter dealt with. It was said to be a good result for the time give to us. I was however advised to make some changes which can be seen bellow.

The significance of numbers
Using any media, design a piece of work that demonstrates the significance of numbers. For example you could look at the number 100 investigating either time or lists of 100 hierarchical ordered items. You could investigate inter relationships of numbers in mathematics, science, art and religion.
Your final outcome must be engaging and allow the viewer to engage and understand the information you present.
You will present this work as a A2 printed poster.

DEFINITION OF A NUMBER

a. A member of the set of positive integers; one of a series of symbols of unique meaning in a fixed order that can be derived by counting.

OUTCOME



I decided for this brief I would research in to the spiritual significance of number 11 and its relationship with 12. My final piece basically looks at the 12 disciples and how Judas is not always seen to have been counted with in this because if his betrayal towards Jesus. It was said that for his sins, Judas hung him self from a tree and this was then known as the Judas tree. The blossom was said to have changed from white to red when this occurred. The interesting patterns in the background are spiritual labyrinths in which people go to reflect. These are associated with the numbers 11 and 12. These represent with in my piece, the realization of Judas actions resulting in his death. All the colors used are in association with the number 11.
